INDIANACAREERREADY can connect you to resources designed to assist job seekers with backgrounds to become gainfully employed.

The HIRE Program is a cooperative effort between the Department of Workforce Development, Department of Corrections, Indiana employers and the public safety community to provide incarcerated and/or discharged Hoosiers with job readiness training and placement.

HIRE Challenge

  •  More than 20,000 ex-offenders are released from Indiana prisons each year
  •  Over 1/3 return to prison within three years – rates increase to 60% when individuals remain unemployed
  •  The estimated incarceration cost to taxpayers is $20,000 per year, per inmate, the average time served is 7.8 years in Indiana

    •  99% Statewide Participant Retention Rate
    •  Businesses Engaged Statewide: 1,332
    •  Average Hourly Rate: $11.31
    •  Total Placements: 2018 = 2,440
    •  Program Placements Overall: 12,880
  • HIRE Statistics

    •  55% of participants entering the program possessed a High School Diploma or Equivalency
    •  24% of participants entering the program possessed more than 12 years education
    •  82% of program participants are male / 18% are female
    •  46.4% of job placements were in a production environment and 14.8% were placed in a food service/restaurant environment
    •  28.7% of participants are referred while on parole
    •  26.8% of participants were referred by Community Corrections / 14.7% from our WorkOne Offices
    •  Other participant placements included opportunities in Warehouse, Construction and Customer Service
